Rackslab announces the release of Slurm-web v7.0.0, a major update that brings enterprise SSO with OpenID Connect, ready-to-use Docker and Podman containers, custom branding for the web interface, a clearer jobs experience with active and recently terminated jobs, finer visibility controls for users, and support for Slurm 26.05.

Slurm is the world leading workload manager for HPC clusters with all most advanced features to manage jobs and resources efficiently with a powerful command-line interface (CLI).

Slurm-web provides a clear graphical user interface with views to track your jobs, intuitive insights and advanced visualizations on top of Slurm to monitor status of HPC supercomputers in your organization, in a web browser on all your devices.

Slurm-web

What’s New?

This version brings several major enhancements:

  • SSO authentication with OpenID Connect (#268)

Slurm-web now supports Single Sign-On authentication with OpenID Connect. This new authentication mode helps organizations integrate Slurm-web with their existing identity provider, while keeping LDAP authentication available for deployments that already rely on it.

  • Docker and Podman containers (#266)

In addition to system packages for most Linux distributions, Slurm-web is now published as ready-to-use containers for Docker and Podman runtimes. This makes Slurm-web easier to deploy in containerized environments, including Kubernetes, and makes it ready for Slinky-based deployments.

  • Custom theme and logo for UI branding (#287)

The web interface can now be branded with custom colors, logos and favicon. This makes it easier to offer a Slurm-web service that matches your organization identity, especially on shared platforms and production portals used by many research teams.

  • Terminated jobs history from SlurmDBD accounting (#325)

The jobs page now focuses on currently active jobs for a clearer real-time view. A new page lists recently terminated jobs over the last hours using SlurmDBD accounting data, making it easier to review completed, failed or cancelled workloads without mixing them with the live queue.

  • Job names in jobs list with advanced filtering (#346)

Job names are now displayed in active and terminated jobs lists. You can also filter jobs by name with a simple substring search or a regular expression, which makes it faster to find workloads from a project, workflow or user campaign.

  • Restrict users to their own jobs (#259)

Administrators can now restrict users to view only their own jobs. This option helps sites expose Slurm-web more broadly while keeping job visibility aligned with local privacy or operational policies.

  • Support for Slurm 26.05 REST API v0.0.45 (#718)

Slurm-web v7.0.0 supports the Slurm REST API v0.0.45 provided by Slurm 26.05. This keeps Slurm-web aligned with the latest upstream Slurm release while preserving compatibility with supported REST API versions through its adapter layer.

  • And more!

In addition to the major features mentioned above, this release includes several other enhancements and bug fixes aimed at improving overall stability and user satisfaction. We are committed to continuously improving Slurm-web to meet the evolving needs of our users. Check out the release notes for more details.

How-to Upgrade

Ready to upgrade? Slurm-web 7 is a major release that requires manual steps in addition to the standard package update. Before upgrading, make sure you:

  • switch your package repository from slurmweb-6 to slurmweb-7,
  • generate a gateway session key with slurm-web gen-session-key,
  • update custom authorization policy action names in policy.ini if you use a site-specific policy,
  • restart the Slurm-web services and verify the web interface.

Final Notes

Slurm-web 7 marks an important step toward the complete web interface Slurm users deserve. Long-awaited features such as SSO, UI branding and job history show how much energy we are putting into the project, and they reflect our long-term commitment to making Slurm-web even more powerful and easier to adopt. After years of continuous development, the roadmap ahead remains just as ambitious!

We would like to thank the community for its feedback, bug reports and feature requests. Your input keeps Slurm-web moving forward and helps us prioritize the features that matter most for real HPC sites.
