At Rackslab, we’re committed to making high-performance computing accessible through open-source tools like Slurm-web. We’re proud of the community we’ve built together.
Why a License Poll?
Slurm-web is currently released under the GPLv3 license, which aligns with our commitment to open-source principles. However, we’ve heard from some organizations that the GPLv3’s requirements — such as the copyleft provision — can create challenges for integration into proprietary workflows or commercial environments. We want to ensure that Slurm-web remains a practical, inclusive tool for everyone, whether you’re an academic institution, a research lab, or a private company.
That’s why we’re opening a community poll to gather your feedback on potential license changes. Should we stick with GPLv3, or consider a more permissive license (e.g., MIT, Apache 2.0, or LGPL)? Your experience and needs are critical in guiding this decision.
How to Vote
Participate in the poll by September 30, 2025, on our GitHub discussion:
The poll takes just a minute, but your input will have a lasting impact. We’ll use the results to guide our next steps and share a summary with the community.
What’s Next?
After the poll closes, we’ll analyze the results. If a license change is warranted, we’ll outline the next steps and timeline for implementation — always with transparency and collaboration at the forefront.
Why Your Voice Matters
Slurm-web thrives because of its diverse user base. Whether you’re a long-time contributor, a system administrator, or a decision-maker evaluating Slurm-web for your team, your input will shape the project’s future. Together, we can ensure Slurm-web continues to evolve in a way that serves everyone.
Let’s decide the future of Slurm-web — together!
